The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide the students with a theoretical management knowledge and practical hands-on experiences; to sharpen their skills and develop expertise for harmonizing basic knowledge of forest science into a coherent forest management framework, characterize (inventory) forest ecosystems, stratify the areas into social, economic and ecological values and map them, prepare a sustainable forest management plan, set up forest management strategies and choose the best among them with operations research techniques and prepare a term project in the form of a forest management plan for a sample forest area and present it in front of the class

Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Recall basic principles of core courses and relate them to forest management context3,4,5
LO - 2 : Read and implement an existing forest management plan in effect3,4,5
LO - 3 : Develop, defend, and critique a variety of different types of natural resource management plans that involve large-scale environmental changes (including water, carbon, air, and land issues)3,4,5
LO - 4 : Identify and accommodate stakeholders for effective participation to set up management objectives and strategies including silvicultural treatments to make management decisions3,4,5
LO - 5 : Work in teams, share the jobs, be responsible for a given task, manage a group of 10-15 students and search/acquire information for making effective management decisions3,4,5
LO - 6 : Regulate forests: Determines the levels, timing and space of the management interventions (Determine AAC)
LO - 7 : Set up and carry out forest inventory3,4,5
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome
