The aim of the course:
To teach methods of round woods (especially log), invidual trees and stand measurement needed in forestry
 
Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : explain and define importance, aim and basic rules of forest mensuration 51,2,4,5
LO - 2 : make measurement of individual trees including dbh, height, age, basal area, volume, bark thickness, crown dimensions51,2,4,5
LO - 3 : identify and classify wood samples (especially logs) 51,2,4,5
LO - 4 : recognize and use all devices used in forest mensuration51,2,4,5
LO - 5 : develop tree volume equation using regression analysis and estimate tree volume 5,6,81,2,4,5
LO - 6 : know how to develop stem taper functions and use statistical package. 5,81,2,4,5
LO - 7 : calculate stand characteristics including stand age, quadratic mean diameter, mean height, dominant height, volume, increment and number of trees 5,6,81,2,4,5

Contents of the Course
Definition and importance of forest mensuration, precision, accuracy and bias, wood types, standards and log volume, devices used in forest measurements, tree volume, determinig of root, branch and bark volumes, individual tree measurement, stem taper functions, diameter distributions, stand measurement, inventory of wood and non-wood forest products and services (Forest Inventory)
