Education Objectives of the Programme :
EP-1: To educate students on the English language, literature, culture, and history, as well as world literatures, while enhancing their critical thinking and analytical skills in these fields.
EP-2: To provide theoretical and practical skills in teaching English as a foreign language, alongside improving fundamental English skills.
EP-3: To train individuals who are proficient in interlinguistic and intercultural communication, capable of translating texts from various fields, and producing high-quality content.
EP-4: To develop students' academic research skills in English literature, language, language education, and translation, equipping them with academic writing proficiency and an analytical perspective for interdisciplinary studies.
EP-5: To teach a second foreign language at an intermediate level and raise awareness of the culture associated with that language.
EP-6: To familiarize students with the origins, structure, functioning, and fundamental linguistic theories of language, enhancing their awareness of key linguistic concepts and subfields of linguistics.
 
Learning Outcomes of the Programme :
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to :
OP-1: They will have acquired the necessary competence to recognize and interpret different cultures in intercultural communication.
OP-2: They will have gained proficiency in English and American literature, history, and culture.
OP-3: They will be able to understand and analyze European culture, mythology, classical and neoclassical art movements, and major historical events such as the Renaissance and the Reformation that shaped European history.
OP-4: They will be able to identify major English literary figures in world literature and analyze literary periods.
OP-5: They will have acquired sufficient knowledge in areas such as literary text analysis, critical approaches, and language education and teaching.
OP-6: Students will learn and apply thesis and academic writing techniques, research methods, and ethical principles; they will also be able to follow scientific and professional developments and improve themselves with a lifelong learning mindset.
OP-7: They will have internalized the approaches and methods effective in foreign language teaching. In addition, they will have knowledge of the psychological, cultural, and individual factors that play a role in the process of language learning and values education, as well as language teaching to various age groups.
OP-8: They will be able to teach foreign language skills (speaking, writing, reading, and listening) and prepare and implement lesson plans and activities appropriate to these skills.
OP-9: They will have developed an understanding of sub-disciplines of English such as phonology, morphology, semantics, pragmatics, and etymology.
OP-10: They will have learned at least one of the following languages, French, Russian, or German, at an intermediate level and developed cultural awareness related to that language.
OP-11: They will be able to produce translations between English and Turkish (and vice versa) in various text types, adhering to purpose and field-specific standards.
OP-12: Students will be able to analyze verbal, non-verbal, and digital communication processes; examine linguistic data using corpus-based methods and tools; and apply their findings in areas such as language teaching, translation, and discourse analysis.
OP-13: Students will analyze the social, cultural, and ideological functions of language by examining discourse analysis and media texts; by relating language to identity, power relations, and social contexts, they will be able to critically evaluate how language operates within society.
OP-14: They will have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to meet academic, public, and private sector needs in the field of foreign language assessment and evaluation.
OP-25: Students will develop critical thinking, text analysis, and academic writing skills by analyzing literature, language education, translation, and contemporary criticism theories in an interdisciplinary manner; they will apply their learning outcomes in various professional and social contexts and become aware of the social, cultural, and environmental impacts of their work.
