The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of the history of landscape architecture and garden art; to familiarize them with garden styles and design approaches from different civilizations and historical periods; and to contribute to their ability to evaluate the aesthetic, functional, and cultural characteristics of architectural and planting elements used in gardens, as well as the evolving relationship between people and gardens throughout history.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Become familiar with fundamental concepts and approaches related to the history of landscape architecture and garden art.21,
LO - 2 : Identify the historical and cultural characteristics of garden styles from different periods and civilizations (e.g., Egyptian, Islamic, and Baroque gardens).21,
LO - 3 : Distinguish the spatial, architectural, and planting elements used in historic garden designs.21,
LO - 4 : Acquire basic skills in obtaining and interpreting information from books, scholarly articles, and archival sources related to the history of landscape architecture.21,

Contents of the Course
- Fundamental concepts related to the history of landscape architecture, garden art history, and archival research sources - Garden styles from different civilizations and historical periods, including their cultural significance, design characteristics, functional values, and documentary sources - Landscapes and gardens of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome; Medieval gardens; Islamic gardens; Italian Renaissance gardens; French Baroque gardens; English Naturalistic gardens; Chinese and Japanese gardens; Turkish garden and landscape art; and the emergence of modern garden and landscape design - Planting and structural elements used in gardens throughout different historical periods and their significance - An introductory research experience utilizing archival sources and historical documents
