The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the field of Applied Linguistics, with a particular focus on second language acquisition (SLA), and to enable them to examine the language learning process from theoretical and practical perspectives. Students will learn major approaches to SLA, reflect on their implications for language teaching, and develop a critical perspective by linking theory with classroom practices.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Explain the scope of Applied Linguistics and its relation to second language acquisition (SLA).71,
LO - 2 : Understand and compare the processes of first language, second language, and bilingual language acquisition.71,
LO - 3 : Identify and interpret key FLA and SLA theories (behaviorist, cognitive, social, etc.).71,
LO - 4 : understand the general framework of language learning contexts and their effects on the learning process."7 - 111,
LO - 5 : Can understand and critically explain major theories, hypotheses, and approaches in second language acquisition.71,
LO - 6 : Evaluate the influence of individual differences such as age, motivation, aptitude, and learning styles on language learning.71,

Contents of the Course
The course covers the definition and scope of second language acquisition; similarities and differences between first and second language acquisition; contexts of learning (naturalistic and classroom-based); behavioral, cognitive, mental, and social approaches (Universal Grammar, Constructivism, Sociocultural Theory, etc.); the role of age and the Critical Period Hypothesis; individual differences (motivation, aptitude, learning styles); cognitive effects of bilingualism; learning strategies and learner autonomy; and the connections between theoretical perspectives and modern language teaching methodologies.
