Thus, it introduces the student to the literary traditions associated with the cultures of Medieval and Renaissance England through the study of exemplary texts, which is essential for a better understanding and appreciation of Medieval and Renaissance English literature. |

| Firstly, as a continuation of the Old and Middle English Literature class, the course introduces the frame-tale convention and Geoffrey Chaucer. Secondly, it covers a historical, cultural, and literary introduction to the Renaissance along with its major developments and changes such as humanism and Reformation in the framework of literary conventions. To this end, the course presents the sonnet tradition along with its main representative writers such as Thomas Wyatt, Henry Howard (Earl of Surrey), Edmund Spenser, Philip Sidney, and William Shakespeare. |
