The aim of the course:
The objective of this course is to understand the historical developments in modern Far East centering on Japan and to shed light on the formation and reconstruction of the Chinese, Japanese and Korean states/nations by evaluating the historical events and concepts in order to comprehend how these states became the economic giants of today.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : define the term `Far East? from the geographical, cultural and political aspects..
PO - 2 : understand the main outline of the modern Chinese and Korean history.
PO - 3 : evaluate Japan?s current status and position in the world by learning the formative and development periods of the modern Japanese nation and state.
PO - 4 : comprehend the significance of the Far Eastern Asian states for today?s Turkiye.

Contents of the Course
This course is about the modern Chinese, Japanese and Korean histories with a special emphasis on the modern Japanese history after the Meiji Restoration. The study of the Chinese (post 1911 revolution) and Korean (post Japanese occupation in 1910) histories is limited to political aspects while the modern Japanese history is examined in political, social, cultural and economic themes.
