The aim of the course:
The purpose of the academic writing course is to develop writing skills at the advanced level. The class will focus on various academic writing activities such as summarizing and synthesizing, rhetorical analysis, argumentation and academic research paper. The academic research paper will provide a guideline for students on how to write their graduation theses at the fourth year. Another focus will be researching as a pre-writing activity and students will be given guidelines about how to use resources, what sources to use and how to cite them using the APA style. Reading texts and discussion activities will be used as starters of the writing process.

Contents of the Course
Diagnostic writing. Summarizing and synthesizing. Writing a research proposal and a short research paper. The APA and MLA Styles: Citing and referencing. Research sources: Academic Search Engines. The Academic Research Paper.

 Week 2Analyzing academic essays from various journals and making comparisons.
 Week 3What is a research proposal? How to outline research. How to write a research proposal. Practice writing research proposals. Students start writing their research proposals in class. Using research done by the students and the preliminary research proposals, the proposals will be edited and polished.
