The aim of the course:
Students are equipped with both theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the importance and scope of values education within the context of both individuals and educators, and they engage in critical evaluations concerning its implementation at the provincial, district, school, and classroom levels. As is the case with other subject teachers, English language teachers are expected to comprehend their responsibility in fostering individuals with strong moral values. Accordingly, they are encouraged to design activities related to values-based English language instruction through both traditional pedagogical methods and AI-supported tools. Contents of the Course
In this course, students gain theoretical knowledge about the concept of "values," including its definition, classification, and its relationship with related concepts such as ethics and morality. Throughout the semester, national and international values education projects are examined, and diverse implementation examples are analyzed. Major approaches to values education are discussed and explored in connection with the teaching profession. Students engage with academic literature on values education and analyze English language textbooks used in public middle schools under the Ministry of National Education from the perspective of values education. Toward the end of the course, the general role of teachers?and specifically that of English language teachers?in the context of values education is examined. In addition, students discuss and design values-based classroom activities that can be integrated into English language instruction.
