The aim of the course:
This course aims at familiarizing learners with a range of translation types in different forms of literature. To this end, students are expected to nurture their translation competence through the opportunities offered to improve their quality of Turkish into English and English into Turkish translation. A further expectation is to let learners develop their proficiency when utilizing translation tools such as dictionaries, the Internet software and so on.

Contents of the Course
Introduction to literary translation (diagnostic test-introducing the course) The process of translation: Approach, textual level, referential level, unit of translating and dynamics of translationLanguage functions in terms of translation: expressive, informative, aesthetic, phatic and metalingual, vocative, Semantic and communicative translationTranslation methods: Equivalence, equivalent effect, cultural equivalent, functional equivalent, descriptive equivalent translation and culture: definitions, cultural categories, material culture, social culture, gestures and habits, translating Turkish and English metaphors, difficulties in translating culturally-loaded texts. The translation of serious Literature and Authoritative Statements (poetry-drama) .
