On 17th January 1994, by the permission of YOK, Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations started to give instruction in the academic year of 1994-1995 with 25 students. The department is composed of 'Labour Economics', 'Labour and Social Security Law', 'Management and Working Sociology', 'Management and Working Psychology' main science branches. | | QUALIFICATION AWARDED | | The students who have successfully completed all courses in the programme with 240 ECTS credits and achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are given Bachelor's Degree in LABOUR ECONOMICS AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS. | | LEVEL of QUALIFICATION: | | European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL), Level 6 | | MODE of STUDY | | Full Time | | ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS | | 1 - High school diploma,

3. English proficiency (500 from TOEFL / 6 from IELTS),

An official paper indicates that an applicant has not a problem with his/her health condition, military service, etc. The application of the students who have started their education in other universities within or outside of the country is also possible. In the private sector, they are employed as experts and managerial candidates in duties and positions related to employer-employee relations, especially in the human resources department. 2. In union activities, collective bargaining, collective labor agreements, collective labor disputes, union trainings, etc. They work as experts and assistant experts on the subject. 3. They work as experts and assistant experts in relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Family and Social Services. 4. They conduct research and postgraduate studies in national and international fields regarding business life. 5. Due to the interdisciplinary structure of the department, they are employed in different sectors or they can be entrepreneurs, in various fields such as finance, public relations, sales, marketing and auditing. | | RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING | | The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.
In this Directive,
- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.
Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently. | | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS | | a) Passing all the courses which are placed in the curriculum with the grade DC, at least. b) Having a CGPA at least 2.00 out of 4.00. c) Preparing a graduate thesis, presenting it to the thesis committee and passing with a final grade. | | EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS | | The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate. The department of LABOUR ECONOMICS AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS is also bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 50%, and 50% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 81-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 76-80 BA, 70-75 BB, 60-69 CB, 50-59 CC, 45-49 DC, 40-44 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. | | GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS | | The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed a minimum of 172 local credits (240 ECTS) from the courses with a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00. Also, they have to complete their graduate thesis with success. Students who have completed the duties stated above have the right to graduate with the title as economist of labour. | | OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES | | Our department graduates have a very wide field of work. First of all, our graduates can be employed in the private sector as experts or managers in tasks and positions related to employee-employer relations, especially in human resources departments. In addition, they can work as experts or assistant experts in unions with the knowledge, skills and competence they have acquired in the field of industrial relations and unionism. In the public sector, they can work as experts or assistant experts in positions related to working life in relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Family and Social Services. In addition, our graduates have career opportunities in various sectors such as banking, finance, public relations, sales, marketing and auditing, due to the interdisciplinary structure of the department. | | ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES | | This programme has also a post graduate programme. For detail information please visit the website: http://www.sbe.ktu.edu.tr/sbe2/index.php | | CONTACT INFORMATION | | | | DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : | | The courses as a part of the department are given in the first building block of the faculty of administrative and economical sciences for academic personnels and also a part of the second building block of the faculty equipped with technological classrooms and computer laboratories are allocated to the public administration. All the computers have an access to the Internet. There are 80 computers, 4 printers. All of the academic personnels have laptops with an internet connection. |
