The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of Karadeniz Technical University was approved to be opened by the decision of the Council of Higher Education in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of the Law No. 2547 dated 9.12.2010 and amended by the Law No. 2880, and education and training activities at undergraduate level started in 2022-2023. |

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS |
|
Nutrition and Dietetics Undergraduate Programme provides vocational education and training to male and female students who have graduated from high schools and equivalent vocational high schools and who are entitled to enter the department with the numerical score obtained from the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). |

OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME |
|
1. Determines the nutritional status of individuals and society, evaluates by identifying problems and priorities, searches, proposes and implements solutions to improve the nutritional level of the country, 2. Determining and directing the food and nutrition plans and policies of the country, 3. Determine the nutritional requirements of different age groups, 4. Organise and apply disease-specific diets, 5. To be able to manage and organise food service in institutions providing mass nutrition services, 6. Ensuring adequate and balanced nutrition of the individual and the society in order to protect, improve and develop the health of the individual and the society throughout life and to increase the quality of life, 7. To train ?Dietician? who follows, researches and applies the developments in nutrition and dietetics science. |

RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING |
|
Senate Decision No. 340, dated 28 July 2023, "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", has been accepted and entered into force. This directive determines the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting and adaptation of the achievements of students registered in all programmes of Karadeniz Technical University outside a higher education institution.
Instruction:
* Knowledge, skills and competencies acquired through special interest exemptions will be recognised in place of programme courses. * Workplace and internship experiences will be recognised through portfolio evaluation in place of programme courses. * Certificates from accredited institutions will be credited in line with special interests.
Announcement of courses included in the scope of prior learning recognition, receipt of applications and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. The recognition of prior learning initiative will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, the benefits include increased professional development and mobility in the labour market, prevention of repetition of education and wasted time, early graduation, reduction of the cost of learning, encouragement of learning, increased motivation and self-confidence. From the employers' perspective, the benefits include: It will contribute to eliminating skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently. |

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS |
|
Students who successfully complete all of the courses available in the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) and obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, as well as complete the compulsory internships within the specified period and specifications, will be awarded a Bachelor's degree with the title of dietitian. |

EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS |
|
Students are subjected to midterm exams, in-semester studies (internship, seminar, quiz, homework, laboratory) and final exam for each course. The contribution of midterm exams and in-semester work to the success grade is 50% and the contribution of the final exam is 50%. In applied courses, 50% of the grade average of these two exams and 50% of the application grade determine the success grade. All exams are evaluated out of 100 points. It is obligatory to get at least 50 points from the final exam. Students who receive one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) from a course are considered to have succeeded in that course. At the end of each semester, students can take the make-up exam from all courses of that semester. |

OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES |
|
Graduates can work in inpatient treatment institutions, child and elderly care homes, maternal and child health, community health, private diet polyclinics as researchers, educators, treatment and rehabilitators as well as academicians. In addition, graduates can work as managers, researchers and trainers in other mass nutrition institutions, private or public institutions related to food and nutrition. |

ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES |
|
Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in graduate programmes provided that they get a valid grade from ALES and have sufficient knowledge of English language. |

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : |
|
Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is located in the Faculty of Health Sciences building and there is 1 meeting room for 80 people, 5 classrooms for 84 people and 1 classroom for 100 people. There are computers and projectors in all classrooms. There is also 1 canteen and 2 vending machines in the building. |
