FOUNDATION & HISTORY |

KTU Department of Psychology is located in Karadeniz Technical University Kanuni Campus, within the Faculty of Letters. The department was established in the autumn semester of the 2011-2012 academic year and started to admit students in the undergraduate program in the autumn semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. The department has four fields of study: Applied Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Experimental Psychology. As of 2024, there are one Professor, one Associate Professor, three Assistant Professors, three Lecturers with Dr., two Dr. Lecturers, and seven Research Assistants. |

Students who successfully complete the programme are awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and the title of psychologist. |

RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING |
|
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.
In this Directive,
* recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses, *recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses, * and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.
Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. |

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS |
|
To successfully complete all the courses available in the programme (equivalent to 240 ECTS in total) and to obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 by taking the defined passing grades. |

EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS |
|
The students are evaluated through a midterm exam/ a term Project (seminar, quiz, assignment, or a second midterm exam) and a final exam for each course. The contribution of each evaluation method is as follows: midterm exam-50 %, and final exam-50 %. All exams are graded out of 100 points. Students are required to take at least 45 from the final exam. A student who has scored either of the letter grades (AA),(BA),(BB),(CB) and (CC) is regarded as successful in the courses. The students can take exams for each semester. Each student must register for classes at the beginning of the term and attend at least 70 % of the lectures for each course. Midterm exams and final exams are done on the dates announced in advance. |

OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES |
|
Graduates of the Department of Psychology; various ministries (such as Ministry of Family and Social Services, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health) and institutions and organizations affiliated to these ministries (such as General Directorates of Prisons and Detention Houses, Probation Departments, General Directorate of Child Services, Community Mental Health Centres, Hospitals); kindergartens, nurseries, and special education centers; psychotechnical centers can work with the title of psychologist. |

ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES |
|
Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can continue their education in graduate programs (master's and doctorate) by being successful in the written or oral interview exam according to ALES score, language score, undergraduate grade point average, and other conditions of the relevant program. |

KTU Psychology Department is located in Karadeniz Technical University Kanuni Campus, within the Faculty of Literature. The department has one psychology laboratory. In this laboratory, psychological researches on various subjects are carried out. In addition, studies on the acquisition of an Eye Tracking Device are ongoing. Faculty members and prospective students of the department have the opportunity to benefit from this laboratory in conducting their research. |
