FOUNDATION & HISTORY
The Department of Industrial Engineering was established within the Faculty of Engineering-Architecture in 1995 with the decision of the Council of Higher Education and was transferred to the Faculty of Engineering in 2005. After meeting the need for sufficient physical space and personnel for education, the master's program started in the 2010-2011 academic year, followed by the undergraduate program in the 2011-2012 academic year.

Founded in 1995, our department utilizes the strong educational infrastructure of our university to train versatile engineers who are involved in activities aimed at ensuring the efficient use of resources such as human, technology, knowledge, time, money, raw materials, and energy, and improving the quality of work. The education given in this context is carried out under two departments: Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. The Industrial Engineering discipline covers topics such as Production Systems Design, Production, Maintenance-Repair, Planning and Control, Engineering Economics, Quality Engineering, Ergonomics and Work Study, Ergonomics, and Supply Chain Management. The Operations Research discipline focuses on fields such as Probability-Statistics, System Analysis, Simulation, Optimization, Decision Making, and Intelligent Systems.

Our department students have the opportunity to participate in internships and educational activities at European universities through the Erasmus exchange program. They can also benefit from the Farabi exchange program to study at domestic universities for at least one semester.

As a result of the accreditation studies initiated to raise and continuously improve the quality of education and scientific research, our undergraduate program was accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK) until September 30, 2023, and authorized to issue EURO-ACE diploma supplements.

Since the 2010-2011 academic year, a master's program has also been carried out in our department. In addition, the doctoral program has been started as of the 2023-2024 spring semester.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED
The students who have successfully completed all of the thought courses of the programme with 240 ECTS credits and achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are given Bachelor's Degree in INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
LEVEL of QUALIFICATION:
European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL), Level 6
MODE of STUDY
Full Time
ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
1 - High school diploma, 2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (ÖSS),
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,
- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS
To be able to secure the bachelor's degree in the field of Industrial Engineering, and thus the title of Industrial Engineer, students are required to:
(a) have passed all courses in the curriculum with a grade of at least DC,
(b) have achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00,
(c) completed the compulsory practical work period of 60 days at least at two diferent places and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these works,
(d) have prepared, submitted, and successfully defended a graduation thesis with a passing grade.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS
Students are required to take a midterm examination and a final examination for each course. The contribution of the midterm examination to the final grade is 50% (during the semester, the course instructor may distribute the midterm contribution among assignments, projects, presentations, and similar activities), while the contribution of the final examination is 50%. All examinations are evaluated out of 100 points, and students are required to obtain at least 45 points in the final examination. At the end of each semester, students may take a make-up examination for the courses they have failed in that semester. Students who receive one of the letter grades AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC in a course are considered to have successfully completed that course.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The graduation requirements for the Department of Industrial Engineering are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and completed the compulsory practical work period of 60 days and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these works.

OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES
Graduates of the Department of Industrial Engineering are employed in many fields related to their profession in both the public and private sectors, and they may also establish their own businesses or become entrepreneurs. In addition, industrial engineers have employment opportunities across sectors, both in the manufacturing industry and in all service sectors.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES
Industrial engineers who successfully complete their undergraduate education may pursue master?s or doctoral programs in industrial engineering, or in departments that admit students from the field of industrial engineering, either at our university or at other universities, provided that they obtain a valid score from the ALES exam and have sufficient English language proficiency.
