The aim of the course:
This elective course is designed to offer basic knowledge to students who wish to enter the mining industry as an exploration geophysicist.
 
Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : introduced historical evolution of mining geophysics and be able explain its relation to potential sources of ore bodies in earth.2,3,8
PO - 2 : identify different types of an geophysical exploration methods for mines.2,3,8
PO - 3 : describe fundamental concepts in magnetic, gravity, electrical and electromagnetic methods for assessing of ore bodies.2,3,8
PO - 4 : determine how minerals are investigated.2,3,8
PO - 5 : design a work plan in investigation areas in this course.2,3,8
PO - 6 : evaluate the geophysical and geological data in investigation areas (filtering, data processing) 2,3,8
PO - 7 : interpret and make a decision from the results for location and deposit of ore body.

Contents of the Course
Introduction to mining geophysics, potential sources of ore bodies in Turkey, fundamental concepts in magnetic, gravity, electrical and electromagnetic methods (VLF, CSAMT, TEM) , assessment of ore bodies, geophysical maps, iso-anomaly curves, profile plot representation of geophysical data, airborne magnetic and EM surveys for ore prospecting, combination of geophysical methods in ore prospecting.
