By analysing the political, military, economic and cultural development of Rome in its historical context, the course aims to enable students to understand the rise of the empire, its systems of government, and its struggle against internal and external threats. By examining Rome's state structure, legal system, social order and religious transformations, students will understand the impact of the Roman legacy on the medieval and modern world. At the same time, the effects of dynastic transitions on the empire will be analysed, and the processes of continuity and change in Roman history will be discussed. The course aims to develop students' analytical thinking and ability to interpret the historical context by considering different aspects of Rome in the light of historiography and archaeological findings. |

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the history of Rome, from the founding myths to the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the early Byzantine Empire. While the course focuses on the political history of Rome, it also analyses legal, social, religious and cultural changes in their historical context. |
