How was situation of Anatolia and Balkans when the Ottoman state was founded? What are the factors that made the ottomans advantageous over other principalities? How was the transition and settlement to Rumelia? How was the establishment of Anatolian and Rumelia Turkish political unity and rise from principality to empire? finding answers to the questions constitutes the learning purpose of the course. In this process, the basic political and administrative activities of the rulers will be learned. |

This semester, the topics from the foundation of the Ottoman Empire to the end of the Fatih Sultan Mehmet period will be covered (1299-1481). Some claims about the origin of the Ottomans and the establishment of the state will be discussed. In the establishment of the state, the situation of Anatolia and Balkans will be discussed and the elements that provide advantages to the Ottomans will be explaned. Then, the formation of state, transition to the Balkans and the policy of resettlement will be covered. Political and administravite activities of the firs Ottoman sultans will be included within the framework of efforts to establish political unity in Anatolia and the Balkans. After the 1402 Ankara war, the disruption of the Turkish political unity and the recovery process afterwarda will be discussed. The conquest of Istanbul and the beginning of a new process will be explained. Political and administrative developments in the period of Fatif Sultan Mehmet will be discussed and empire formation will be emphasized. |
