It also aims to make students to develop a critical attitude both to the medieval world and the cliches about it. |

The course covers the detailed and comprehensive study of the major works of Geoffrey Chaucer within the literary, political, social and historical context of the Middle Ages and especially the fourteenth century. It covers the literary traditions associated with the cultures of early and late medieval England through the study of examplary texts, which is essential for a better understanding and appreciation of Medieval English Literature and Chaucer. It thus introduces and studies romance, frame-tale convention, dream-vision convention and allegory. More specifically, the course focuses on Chaucer, his times and his significance in English Literature by an indepth analysis of his major works. |
