The approach will be ecological, with environmental physicochemical properties related to the regulation of microbial processes, distributions and biodiversity. |

Introduction, Aims, Problems, and solutions in aquatic microbial ecology; Origin, composition, and microbial utilization of dissolved organic matter; Microbial ectoenzymes in aquatic environments; Aspects of aquatic microbial carbon metabolism; Regulation of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase; Methods for detecting distributions of microorganisms in the environment; Methods of detecting biomass and activities of microorganisms in marine waters; The energetics regulating microbial processes; Microbial biochemical pathways, biodegradation, microbial interactions; The role that microorganisms play in the food webs of various ecosystems; Approaches to bacterial population dynamics; RNA chemotaxonomy of bacterial isolates; Natural microbial communities; Plasmids and their role in natural aquatic bacterial communities. |
