The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is to enable students with a basic knowledge of Roman history to have an in-depth knowledge of the political, social, legal, economic, religious and cultural aspects of Roman civilisation; to comprehend the values system, institutions and way of life of Roman society within the historical context; to evaluate the impact of Roman heritage on subsequent civilisations.

Contents of the Course
The formation process of Roman civilisation; Roman social structure, family and social classes; Roman religion and religious institutions; legal system and the concept of citizenship; state institutions and the concept of government; Roman army and military culture; urbanism, architecture and engineering; art and aesthetics; philosophical and intellectual life; everyday life and entertainment culture; economy, trade and technology; Rome's interaction with Greek and Eastern cultures; the rise of Christianity and cultural transformation; reflections of Roman heritage in the Middle Ages and the modern world.
