FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
The department was firstly founded in 1996-1997 academic year as Computer Hardware Program affiliated to the Department of Technical Programs in Trabzon Vocational School, started to accept students and gave its first graduates in August 1998. In 2002, Computer Hardware Program is named as Computer Technologies and Programming Program under the Department of Technical Programs within the scope of transition from Vocational Schools to Vocational High Schools without exam project. In 2009, the Department of Computer Technologies was established in accordance with the ISCED-97 system. There is a Computer Programming Program within the department. As of October 2016, 1158 computer technicians are graduated from Computer Technologies Department.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
Students who successfully complete all of the courses in the program (total 120 ECTS credits) and achieve a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and complete the vocational internship (60 workdays), are awarded an Associate's Degree in the field of COMPUTER PROGRAMING. This degree corresponds to the fifth level of education within the European Qualifications Framework.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
The admission and registration requirements are explained in the legislation of the Higher Education Law of Republic of Turkey. Vocational High School graduates are admitted to the program without examination due to the quotas. Vacant quotas are filled with standard high school graduates according to their results of ÖSYM exam. The placement is made by OSYM. The registration requirements are the same as the higher education entry system.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
With the rapid development in the field of computer technology in recent years, computers are widely used in the bussiness and home lifes. Computer technologies and programming is related with the areas of computer usage, software development (for PC, network and internet), hardware, computer network installation and management. The students of this department are trained as persons who have sufficient knowledge in all areas of computer science, equipped with the ability to practice their knowledge at high levels and can develop themselves according to technological advancements.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
Students who successfully complete their 2 academic year (4 semesters) and also the vocational internship are awarded their associate degree.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
Students are required to take midterm work (exam, project, seminar, quiz or homework) and final exam for each course. The achievement grade is 50% of the midterm work and 50% of the final exam. All exams are evaluated with an absolute score of 100 points. At least 45 points are required from the final exam. The final grades are converted into a letter grade according to the relative grading system. Students who have taken one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) are considered successful. At the end of each semester, the students may take a makeup exam from the courses they fail in that semester.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
Students who successfully complete all of the courses in the program (total 120 ECTS credits) and achieve a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and complete the vocational internship (40 workdays), are awarded an Associate's Degree in the field of COMPUTER PROGRAMING.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
The students who are graduated from Computer Programming Programme can be employed in the fields of computer industry, technical services and bussinesses. They can either make their own initiatives or can work as IT manpower at the departments of information processing units, software, hardware, communication networks, technical services of public or private companies.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
The students who have completed this program can continue to the Departments of Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer and Instructional Technologies Teaching, according to the results of proficiency exam made by OSYM. In addition, all graduates have the possibility to continue to Economics or Business Administration Departments of the Open Education Faculty.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
The department provides training with four academic staff, one technical staff, two computer laboratories with 25 computers and 40 computers and two classrooms each having 80 seats and projectors.
