FOUNDATION & HISTORY |

Department of Electrical end Electronics Engineering was established in 1969. In the begining the name of the departmant was Electrical Engineering under Machanichal and Electical Faculty. The name of the department has been changed to Electrical and Electronics Engineering as one of the departments in Faculty of Engineering and Architechture, in 1982. The Faculty of Engineering and Architechture has been separated into two new faculties as Engineering Faculty and Architecture in 2005, and the mission of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering continues under Engineering Faculty since then. | | QUALIFICATION AWARDED | | The students who have graduated from the Department of Electrical end Electronics Engineering is awarded with a Bachelor's degree in the field of Electrical end Electronics Engineering. | | LEVEL of QUALIFICATION: | | European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL), Level 6 | | MODE of STUDY | | Full Time | | ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS | | 1 - High school diploma,
2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (LGS),
3 - Placement certificate issued by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (LYS),
4 - English proficiency (500 from TOEFL / 6 from IELTS) | | OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME | | Students who admitted to the department go to English Language School first, for Language preperation for one year, then start their education in the department. The program includes basic science and core electrical engineering courses. At the benning of the Third year, the program is divided into two parts as (1) Electrical and Control Area, (2) Electronics and Communications Area. The students select one of the areas and continue their education. Although, the most of the courses in Third year are common for both areas, they are different in Fourth year. Starting at the end of the Second year, students must complete a 60 work day practical work in industry and submit a report. A final Year Project must also be completed and presented according to the Final Year project Regulation. At least 30% of the courses thought in English for each term, therefore for total Eight term. Students who have left no courses from the previous terms when starting the Seventh term are able to admit 11 more credit-hour courses to be able to have their transcript include courses from the area they did not selected at the beginning of the Third year, as well. | | RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING | | The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.
In this Directive,
- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.
Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently. | | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS | | To be able to secure the bachelor's degree in the field of Electrical end Electronics Engineering, the students are required to (a) have passed all courses in the curiculum with a grade of at least DC form the, (b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, (c) completed the compulsory practical work period of 60 days at least at two diferent places and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these works, (d) prepared a graduation thesis, submitted and successfully defended with a passing grade. | | EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS | | The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Electrical end Electronics Engineering is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam 50%) and a final end-of-term exam (50%). The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. | | GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS | | The graduation requirements for the Department of Electrical end Electronics Engineering are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and completed the compulsory practical work period of 60 days and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these works. | | OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES | | The graduates of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering establish their own bussiness as professinal engineers, or they work for the companies doing bussinness in the areas of communication services and installations such as TURK TELEKOM, TURKCELL, VODAFON and AVEA; and also for the companies doing bussinness in the areas of power transmission, distribution, installation, as well as industrial automation. Some of the graduates of the department are interested in research and academic carear and proceed towards their MScE and Phd degrees either in Turkey or abroad. | | ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES | | The students who have successfully graduated from the department may apply to post graduate programmes in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering either in Turkish universities or universities abroad. Currently there are many graduates who are active faculty members in other universities in Turkey or abroad. | | CONTACT INFORMATION | | | | DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : | | The department is constructed over a 14719 m2 area. 3832 m2 of the total are is reserved and used as laboratory. There are 10 classrooms, one seminar room, one meeting room, and a Lecture Hall named after Halis Duman who is one of the founder of the department. Four classrooms were assigned to the Department of Computer Engineering. Halis Duman Lecture Hall, all classrooms, Seminar room, and the meeting room are equipped with required devices and suitable for presentations. Laboratories are updted with the new technology approximately in evry five years. There is a computer lab with 25 PC's having important softwares installed for electrical and electronics engineers. There are also a CAD lab with 5 computers and a Simulation Lab with 12 computers. |
