Collecting and processing of the data is the important stage of the technologic improvement. For this works, applying the Computer and statistical techniques and methods are necessary. Amazing developing in computer technology and new methods of the statistics, any more these sciences are not sufficiently qualified separately. This is necessary that, they are bringing to gather like a science all on its own. To serve this aim, Department of Statistics and Computer Sciences is founded in structure of Faculty of Art and Sciences in 1993 and started the received students in spring semester of 1994-1995 academic years. Also, Statistics and Computer Sciences Graduate Program was establish in the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences. | | QUALIFICATION AWARDED | | The students who have successfully completed all of the thought courses of the programme with 240 ECTS credits and achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are given Bachelor's Degree in statistics and computer science. | | LEVEL of QUALIFICATION: | | European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL), Level 6 | | MODE of STUDY | | Full Time | | ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS | | 1 - High school diploma 2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (ÖSS) | | OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME | | Statistics and Computer Science section students learn about computers and statistical techniques, and they are graduated having ability to apply these techniques to other disciplines. The curriculum constructed to achieve these objectives contain courses in the field of applied statistics, probability theory, stochastic process, operational research, computer programming and statistical software, and additional courses such as introduction to business science and economic policies. In addition to compulsory courses, the students are given the chance of taking courses from the list of elective courses based on their own preferences, which makes the programme flexible from the students' perspective.The students graduate from Department of Statistics and Computer Sciences are can be engaged by government service which have statistician staff, Computer Software Cooperation, Private research companies and many private and state banks. Alumni can academics in Statistics, Econometrics and information technology department. Additionally, if complete the course in the event of Pedagogy can be the computer teacher. | | RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING | | The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.
In this Directive,
- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.
Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently. | | QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS | | Existing in the program (for a total of 240 ECTS) has successfully completed all courses and a minimum 2.0 weighted GPA over 4.00 for students who obtain a bachelor's degree in COMPUTER SCIENCE AND STATISTICS is given. | | EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS | | The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Statistics is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 30%, 20% and 50% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 81-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 76-80 BA, 70-75 BB, 60-69 CB, 50-59 CC, 45-49 DC, 40-44 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. The details given for each course in the programme include the detailed assessment methods together with a description of the second mid-term exam. Each student must register for each course at the beginning of the each semester and attend at least 70% of the each lecture and 80% of each seminiar work in each semester in order to have the right to take the final exam of each theoretical course. Alumni can acadenics in Statistics, Econometrics and information technology department. Additionally, if complete the course in the event of Pedagogy can be the computer teacher. | | ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES | | STATISTICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE students with a degree in their own section, and other universities in Statistics, Econometrics section, also taking remedial courses in Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, etc.. section can also do master. | | CONTACT INFORMATION | | | | DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : | | A class with 50 people in the department of technical equipment, and 2 classes are available 20 by evil people.
