The aim of the course:
The aim of this course to teach the students how to design and mend the fishing gears of various types. It is also aimed for them to understand basic concept behind the gear design and parameters involved in. At the end of the course the students will be able to design or select the fishing gear suitable for a given fishery.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : have the knowledge to design the fishing gears of various types.1,5,11,121
LO - 2 : get the knowledge and talent to cut the net sheets to prepare fishing gears.1,6,111
LO - 3 : calculate the resistance exposed upon fishing gears by water.1
LO - 4 : draw the technical plans of fishing gears they design.1

Contents of the Course
Basic definitions, Net geometry (hanging ratio, mesh size), Twine thickness, twine length, area of netting, net utilization coefficient, Forces acting upon nets (static and dynamic forces), Design of trawl gears, Hydrodynamic resistance of the gears, Design of gillnets, Design of purse seines
