The aim of the course:
Bu dersin amacı, yüksek lisans düzeyindeki öğrencilerin İngilizce Akademik Amaçlı Öğretim (EAP) alanına ilişkin kuramsal bilgi ve kavramsal farkındalık kazanmalarını sağlamak; akademik dil, söylem ve metin türlerine yönelik temel yaklaşımları eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla incelemektir. Ders, EAP?nin kuramsal temellerini, akademik söylemin dilbilimsel ve söylemsel özelliklerini, akademik okuma ve yazmaya ilişkin modelleri, alan-özgül akademik dil tartışmalarını ve akademik iletişime ilişkin güncel yaklaşımları tanıtmayı amaçlar. Bu doğrultuda öğrencilerin, akademik İngilizcenin öğretimi ve öğrenimine ilişkin kuramları değerlendirebilmeleri, mevcut araştırmaları eleştirel olarak yorumlayabilmeleri ve EAP alanındaki pedagojik ve akademik tartışmaları kuramsal düzeyde analiz edebilmeleri hedeflenmektedir.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : explain key theoretical concepts and frameworks underpinning English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
PO - 2 : analyze the linguistic, discourse, and genre features of academic texts from a theoretical perspective
PO - 3 : compare major models of academic reading and writing and evaluate their implications for EAP
PO - 4 : critically review empirical and theoretical studies in the field of EAP;
PO - 5 : discuss discipline-specific academic language and its relevance to academic communication
PO - 6 : apply theoretical knowledge to the critical evaluation of EAP curricula and pedagogical practices

Contents of the Course
This course focuses on the theoretical foundations of English for Academic Purposes (EAP). The course content covers the emergence and development of EAP, key concepts related to academic language and discourse, academic genres and genre-based approaches, theoretical models of academic reading and writing, discipline-specific academic language and discourse variation, and linguistic and pragmatic features of academic communication. In addition, issues such as academic integrity and source use are addressed from a theoretical perspective. Throughout the course, foundational and contemporary theoretical studies in the field of EAP are examined in order to enable students to critically engage with major debates and frameworks related to the teaching and learning of academic English.
