Üyesi Burhan CAN | | Co-Lecturer | | | Language of instruction | Turkish | | Professional practise ( internship ) | None | | | | The aim of the course: | | The aim of this course is to introduce the genre of mensur hikâye (prose narrative) within the tradition of Classical Turkish Literature and to examine the sources, structural features, narrative techniques, aesthetic elements and cultural contexts of these works. The course investigates how the Arabic and Persian narrative traditions were transmitted into Ottoman prose culture and discusses the literary, social and intellectual functions of these stories within a critical framework. Students will improve their philological reading skills while also learning to evaluate prose narratives through modern narratological and cultural analysis methods. |

| The content of this course includes: the concept of the prose narrative; the Arabic-Persian narrative tradition and its transmission to the Ottoman context; subgenres of Turkish prose narratives (love stories, sergüzeşt narratives, moral?didactic tales, hagiographic narratives, anecdotes, adventure stories, short prose texts with epic elements); the historical development of the prose narrative tradition; analysis of narrator, point of view, plot and style; forms of humor, irony, allegory and representation in prose narratives; and sample text analyses. |
