The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the emergence and development of metropolitan areas in the process of globalization; and to equip students with the competence to analyze planning approaches, types, and applications at the metropolitan scale, using examples from around the world and from Turkey.

Contents of the Course
This course covers the effects of globalization on cities, the metropolis and the metropolitanization process, metropolitan area criteria and typologies, the main problems encountered in metropolitan areas, and metropolitan planning approaches, types, and tools; metropolitan planning practices in the world and in Turkey are examined with examples.
