The aim of the course:
Definitions and concepts related to rural areas vary because they are determined by different variables and inputs in various fields such as social, economic, cultural, and geographical aspects. The importance of defining rural areas, understanding rural fabric, and approaching settlements from a context-focused perspective will be emphasized. The goal is to access the necessary scientific knowledge to define, classify, and analyze rural settlements and their fabric, and to develop the ability to reflect this typological analysis in planning and design.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Will acquire the ability to identify settlements in rural settlements
LO - 2 : Understand the relationship between spatial and socio-cultural structure
LO - 3 : Understand the importance of relationship and interaction between the settlement and the living in shaping the living space
LO - 4 : They will experience the contents of the design guide and the preparation process
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome

 
Contents of the Course
This course will discuss planning approaches and the design process for rural planning, understand the connection between rural residents and the shaping of their living spaces, and explore the differences in rural planning approaches and potential implementation tools. It will also examine the differences between zoning plans and design guidelines, discussing the advantages of design guidelines and the opportunities provided by involving local communities in the process. Finally, it will include the preparation of a sample rural settlement design project and its design guide.
