The aim of the course:
to critically examine the foundation and basic elements of discourse-analytical research to discuss the relationship between communicative interactions and Critical Discourse Analysis to conceptualize the relationship between language form and function in literary and non-literary texts To help students familiarize with the research that has been done both on written and spoken language over the years and the analytic approaches that have been used to analyze these discourses

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : elaborate on theoretical knowledge of Critical Discourse Analysis 1 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 12 - 13 - 14
PO - 2 : learn practical techniques to demonstrate critical approach to the text read
PO - 3 : understand hidden messages in texts
PO - 4 : Systematically apply critical discourse analytical methods to the analysis of relevant spoken, written and multimodal texts
PO - 5 : Explain the discursive choices made in texts and critically examine the meanings they produce with regard to social and ideological values

Contents of the Course
This course deals with critical re-assessments of the language and methods of production used in various literary, dramatic and media texts. It includes practical analyses of major issues in discourse analysis with a focus on different models of analysis outlined and evaluated in terms of their usefulness to language and literary studies.
