Students are expected to evaluate the political, social, and historical dimensions of national identity formation comparatively and relate contemporary regional developments to theoretical debates. |

| This course analyzes nationalism, national identity, and state-building processes in the Middle East within historical and theoretical frameworks. Drawing on major theories of nationalism (modernist, ethnosymbolist, primordialist approaches), it examines post-Ottoman state formation, colonial legacies, border-making, identity politics, citizenship regimes, and authoritarian state structures. |
