The aim of the course:
It aims to identify the situations related to maritime safety, security, and the environment and to study the issues by producing policies within the scope of current legislation.
 
Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : be able to understand the definitions of safety, security, and environment in maritime
PO - 2 : be able to comment on ISM, ISPS, UNCLOS1988 and MARPOL
PO - 3 : be able to knows environmental protection policies
PO - 4 : be able to make an assessment about safety, security and environmental policies
PO - 5 : be able to make an assessment about the safety, security, and environmental policies of the IMO and countries
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), PO : Learning Outcome

 
Contents of the Course
Definition of safety and security concepts used in maritime, historical development of safety and security concepts, study of safety and security related legislation by defining safety culture, study of marine environment and related legislation, evaluation of ISM, ISPS, UNCLOS1982 and MARPOL convention, understanding of safety and security factors in the operation of ships, knowledge of current practices, safety, security and environmental policies, IMO policy and process management, applications and different approaches of countries,
