The aim of the course:
To learn the fundamental characteristics of wood material, to introduce the concept of wood technology, and to provide scientific and technical information about the anatomical, chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of wood material, which has an organic structure, within the scope of its effects on industrial usage areas.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :

Contents of the Course
The structure of wood material; its microscopic and macroscopic features; abnormalities in cell structure; specific gravity, annual ring, ring width, texture; chemical and physical properties; defects caused by pests; wood-water relationship; thermal and electrical properties; acoustic properties; recognition of native and foreign tree species and learning their usage areas.

 Week 3Characteristics and advantages of wood material, usage of wood material as industrial raw material
 Week 4 Microscopic structure of wood material, the structure of wood cell structure and chemical structure of wood
 Week 5The main parts tree trunk, wood transmission tissues
 Week 6Section in wood material (Cross section, tangential section, radial section)
 Week 7Macroscopic properties of wood material (pith, annual ring, softwood, hardwood)
 Week 8The term of texture, relationship of texture with annual ring
 Week 9Midterm exam
 Week 10Macroscopic properties of wood material (heartwood, sapwood, sap rays, resin channels, sap stains, bark)
 Week 11Physical properties of wood (The relationship of wood-water)
 Week 12Physical properties of wood (contraction and expansion, fiber saturation point, drying of wood material)
 Week 13Physical properties of wood (Specific gravity, volume weigh of per unit, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, factors affecting durability and strength, hardness, color, brightness, odor and taste)
 Week 14Changes in wood fiber structure, wood imperfections
 Week 15Overall assessment of wood material, widely used industrial foreign and local tree species
