The aim of the course:
Learning general information on electrical machines and power systems, mine power and electrical machines, electric circuits, mine electric power systems.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Student will be able to acquire general information on electrical machines and power systems1.1 - 1.3 - 2.2
LO - 2 : Student will be able to learn the importance of electrical machines and power systems for mining sector1.1 - 2.2
LO - 3 : Student will be able to learn electric circuits, mine electric power etc.1.1 - 2.2 - 5.2

Contents of the Course
General information on electrical machines and power systems, mine power and electrical machines, electric circuits, mine electric power (transformers, conversion equipment, transmission lines, mine cables, motors and explosion proof motors) , power distribution equipment and power distribution arrangements for underground and surface mines.
 
Course Syllabus

 Week 1Introduction, representation some electrical engineering applications using in mining and fundamental electrical variables
 Week 2Kirchhoff Laws, Ohm Law, dc circuits, the solution methods of dc circuits, dc sources and applications
 Week 3Alternative current quantities, inductance and capacitor concepts, alternative voltage sources and the produce of ac power.
 Week 4Ac circuits, impedance calculations, phasor concept, active, reactive and apparent power calculation on single phase system
 Week 5Three phase electrical systems, star and delta connection, power factor, correction of power factor, compensation.
 Week 6Power distribution systems: Power stations, cables and symbols, the voltage drop calculation on ac and dc circuits, determination of conductor, an analysis of a power distribution schema to designed for a mining.
 Week 7Automatic control equipment and systems using miming applications, communication, PLC and sensors, monitoring.
 Week 8Transformers, single and three phase: Constructions, operating principles, protection devices, operational variables, conditions of parallel operations and determination of power.
 Week 9Midterm exam
 Week 10Asynchronous machines: Construction, kinds, cage rotor-wound rotor, operating principles, operating variables, torque characteristics and starting methods.
 Week 11Direct current motors, power electronic components and power electronic devices , rectifiers used mining applications and frequency converters
 Week 12Mechanical power calculations for pumps, ventilators, escalators, conveyer and hoisting systems. Determination power and kinds of electrical motors
 Week 13Determinations fundamental properties of electrical device concerning safety, classifications according to temperature, IEC gas classifications, protection classes for ex-proof, IP standards for electrical machines.
 Week 14Safety in electrical installations and protection grounding.
 Week 15Season evaluation and question solution
