The aim of the course:
The objectives of the academic writing course include introducing students to a variety of writing styles (expository, persuasive, argumentative, analytical); developing critical thinking skills through analysis and argumentation; identifying audience and purpose to effectively tailor writing; developing research skills, including source integration and citation; structuring ideas coherently with clear paragraph organization; developing grammar, revision and editing skills for clarity; and raising awareness of plagiarism.

Contents of the Course
This course provides opportunities to develop writing skills as well as close reading and critical thinking skills. Through process-based instructional steps such as prewriting, drafting, instructor/peer feedback, and revision, students will be exposed to the expressions of academic writing, and their awareness of how to construct the parts of a paper in particular will be heightened. By the end of the semester, students will have experience in the production of formal writing as expected in their academic and professional lives. Through practical tasks, writing assignments and a final project, students will be able to consolidate basic writing conventions and produce constructed arguments for different rhetorical contexts.
