ORML7382 | Landslide Analysis in Watersheds | 3+0+0 | ECTS:7.5 | Year / Semester | Fall Semester | Level of Course | Third Cycle | Status | Elective | Department | DEPARTMENT of FOREST ENGINEERING | Prerequisites and co-requisites | None | Mode of Delivery | | Contact Hours | 14 weeks - 3 hours of lectures per week | Lecturer | Prof. Dr. Turgay DİNDAROĞLU | Co-Lecturer | Prof. Dr. Sezgin HACISALİHOĞLU | Language of instruction | Turkish | Professional practise ( internship ) | None | | The aim of the course: | The content of this course deals with the phenomenon of landslides in rainfall basins and various aspects of this phenomenon. Its main purposes are:
- To teach basic concepts such as the definition of landslide, what it is, how it occurs, and under what conditions it occurs.
- To give information about the structural features of landslides, their different types (such as landslides, shoots, etc.) and the factors affecting the formation of these types (soil properties, slope, rainfall amount, geological structure, etc.).
- To examine the effects of land use in rainfall basins (agriculture, construction, forest management, etc.) on landslide formation and how this relationship should be managed.
- To evaluate the effects of climate factors such as precipitation regime and temperature changes on landslide formation.
- To provide information on the measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of landslides, engineering structures (such as terraces, walls, drainage systems) and the effectiveness of these structures.
- To discuss how landslides affect people and the economy and how these effects can be reduced or managed.
- To understand the physical, geological and social characteristics of landslide areas through case studies and laboratory studies. |
